I had the pleasure of meeting the very amusing Andrew Harman, Chief Creative at YAY Games UK last week. I crashed a Playtest meeting in London and was met with a welcoming smile and a genuine kindness. Andrew is a man who clearly loves his “work”.
I had quite a lot of questions for him about his current test game which was sprawled across the table and surrounded by a crowd eagerly waiting to play and review it, but more on that at a later date. All I’ll say is that it’s an inspired game that will suit all ages. There were plenty of giggles and a smattering of innuendo that went along with this new game!
However, what I really wanted to know was a little bit more about Andrew’s “latest” success, OMINOES. It garnered a lot of positive attention in 2016 and was eagerly watched. For those of you unfamiliar with this game let’s start by saying that it now has pedigree! Ominoes won the Best Abstract Game Award from UK Games Expo 2017. Not too shoddy!
Ominoes is more of a tactical game than a game of strategy therefore can be won by players of any age. It’s a great little game which has wowed people of all gaming abilities by it’s sheer simplicity. It’s bright, it’s fun, it has dice and a board with snakes, beetles, falcons and suns..and only takes about 15 minutes to play.
To quote Andrew – “Ominoes..is quick, it’s simple and is a little bit naughty”.
I could spend time explaining the game but there is nobody better placed than the creator so, over to Andrew Harman to show us what it’s all about.
